In any major city, community enriching events range from yoga classes on rooftops to art shows downtown. When you engage with your community, the world seems a lot less distant, and can open opportunities that you never knew existed. By engaging in activities around your city, you will reignite your appreciation and joy for your current life both physically and mentally. It's a great way to engage with your family, friends and community as a whole--and to remember that the joys you're seeking out of life are already available all around you.

Community is defined as a group of people living in the same place or having something in common such as attitudes, interest or goals. By definition, all humans have  a communal connection with one another. We all live on earth and have a hand, however small it may be, in the improvement or the demise of it. We all work to make a living. We all have interests and hobbies. And we all want to be happy. Therefore, we must make efforts to experience face-to-face interactions to ensure happiness and connection in our views.

And there's empirical data that proves the more we take care of ourselves, the more we take care of our community, too. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, "Individuals with high levels of well-being are more productive at work and are more likely to contribute to their communities."

Your Challenge: Attend at least one community enriching activity anywhere in the city.

How It Works:

Step 1. Research an activity that interests you within your city.

Step 2. Discover a way to get involved within the month.

Step 3. Sign up or show up with an open mind.

Step 4. Get into it, whatever it is, commit and let your endorphins run wild.

Communities present a flow of information and practices between their members. Like a colony of ants or a pack of wolves, humans in a community come together in times of need, and in turn friendships and support systems blossom. Humans need social connections to survive. Social connections are a proven attribute to a good living condition, along with employment and housing, these are fundamental to well being.

With the increase of technology and the ease with which we have access to convenience, it is no wonder why people are becoming increasingly less active. Services such as Uber EATS, entertainment such as Xbox and Netflix contribute to a lazier society. These things are great in moderation, who doesn't love a meal delivered to your front door or a great TV series to binge watch, but it shouldn't monopolize your free time. Engaging in the world around you, enjoying nature and improving social skills on a regular basis are things that will only benefit you and your family.

Well-being integrates mental health and with some effort physical health follows, resulting in a more holistic approach to disease prevention and health promotion. Ergo, tight knit communities usually consist and promote health and wellbeing.  If we stay within our comfort zones and limit our interaction to only those we know, then we limit our potential to grow as a society.
